Greetings card marketplace thortful is partnering with four charities for its first-ever charity Christmas card collection.
The thortful team are working with four charities very close to their hearts; Voyage Youth, Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue Dementia Adventure and Heart Research UK
For every pack of A6 cards sold, a donation of 5p will go to the charities.
Heart Research UK funds pioneering medical research into the prevention, treatment, and cure of heart disease. The charity’s UK chief executive, Kate Bratt-Farrar said: “The donations from the Christmas card sales will help us raise much-needed funds for our pioneering medical research into the prevention, treatment, and cure of heart disease. We are so grateful for all your support. Together we can take on heart disease.’’
Dementia Adventure thinks differently about dementia, taking a positive focus on the individual and not on the condition. The charity states: “We look at what people can do, not what they can’t. We concentrate on ‘the possible’. With the right support, people can continue to do the things they have always enjoyed, keep active and remain a valued member of society.’’
Kath Vale, head of communications & fundraising, said: “Lockdowns and Covid have highlighted the wellbeing benefits of getting outdoors and connecting with nature for all of us. For people living with dementia, it can even delay the disease’s progression. Getting outdoors can often be taken for granted but for some people with dementia, accessing these benefits can get more and more difficult, often because of other people’s perception of what is still possible and the poor design of outdoor spaces. We are delighted to be partnering with thortful on this range of Christmas cards which, as a small charity, simply would not be possible on our own. Through this support we can enable more people with dementia to get outdoors, remain active, keep connected to friends, family and community, and retain a sense of adventure in their lives.’’
Voyage Youth works with youth from BAME backgrounds and focuses on developing a dynamic team of young leaders so they can empower peers and transform their communities. CEO Paul Anderson said: “Voyage is delighted and honoured to continue our partnership with thortful by being nominated as one of their chosen Christmas charities. thortful share our values for a fairer world and and we hope you do too.’’
The Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue (EGLR) was set up in 1989 by Pip Singleton who started bringing Greyhounds and Lurchers into her home in an attempt to stop them being destroyed. The EGLR rescue grew and is now run by about 10 volunteers and has foster homes that look after and raise funds for the 70-plus dogs being cared for at any one time. Pip commented: “We are all extremely excited to be receiving donations from the sale of these beautiful Christmas cards, the money raised will go towards our large vet bills and will help toward dogs like Griff who will cost thousands of pounds in veterinary care.’’
